This is basically a lovely round-up of the season for me and what lies ahead. I am cautious and nervous when writing updates and overviews like this that it’ll sound like I’m being egotistical. But c’est la vie and I hope to steer away from that.
If I’m being honest, I am incredibly surprised that I’m still doing this blogging lark and most importantly, I love doing it! This year I’ve been getting a lot more coverage, praise, constructive criticisms and the occasional rants and it’s been marvellous. The Sisters Are Doin’ It For Themselves Series has been great, with many people talking about sexism within snooker and lots of referees retweeting the article about female referees, including even Michaela Tabb, though she was disappointed that I forgot Patricia Murphy, the second woman to referee in snooker history as well as working in the pool circuit and lots of brilliant exhibitions. Here she is with Michaela below. That snippet on referees weirdly is the most read article I currently have and I have very happy that so many people read a series that I enjoy researching, so thank you all very much!
Because I only wanted to try this and had very low expectations on whether I would enjoy talking about snooker on the internet, the logo and website I created was very basic. I am still looking through how to improve the website with various templates and hope to do this by the start of next season (however, if you have recommendations of templates or areas of the website that you feel I need a revamp on, please tell me!)
The logo, I have annotated, checked and completed and will pin it up next week. I am ecstatic that this will be my new logo (I have two variations of it anyway!)
This logo has been updated and created by Weperfectionist from Fiverr. Fiverr is a website full of freelancers in website and logo design, graphics, video and programming. Weperfectionist is extremely quick, thorough and has great creativity when he merges his ideas with my own. Also, he’s a delightfully polite chap and I would recommend him. I said I wanted to change logo for a good few months ago and I’m glad it’s happened! If there is one of those two you like, let me know (they are nearly the same for god’s sake!)
So what will happen next season? I have no idea but I would love to do another series like the Sisters Are Doin’ It For Themselves Series. I’ve always wanted to do one about John Higgins and the mishaps and alleged scandals in Kiev and you-know-what – the very few controversies that people still feel very strongly about. I would love to interview people as well and it would be great to see the potential in doing that. It still boggles my mind that I reached over 1,000 views in a single month for the first time and through this may be very few to some it is massive to me!
I want to move up with this blog while not getting ahead of myself nor make it overwhelming for me. It is never good to make this a job at the moment or it will become stress and be less fun for me and I don’t wish to go in that direction at the expense of you lovely people. So basically, new logo, soon-to-be-new website and I will still be talking, debating and joking about the same random stuff with great people on Twitter. Cheers for making it brilliant for me and long may it continue. Onwards and upwards!
