PREVIEW: UK Women’s Championship

Riga was lovely, thank you for asking.

Right, onto more important stuff: the UK Championship. We saw the last ranking event that Reanne Evans won the Paul Hunter Women’s Classic by beating Ng On Yee 4-1 in the final in Germany. Tomorrow is the second ranking event of the season where ladies battle it out for the LITEtask UK Women’s Championship trophy. Like the Paul Hunter Classic, both Reanne Evans and Ng On Yee receive a bye past the knockout rounds so that they go through the annoying process of tables and the lovely business. It’s how rankings work out, I’m afraid!

On Yee will be defending maximum points following her Leeds victory in 2015 and will be looking to close the gap on Evans. Not a lot of change has happened, despite many players missing out on the first event. One of them, Suzie Opacic will be looking to get her hands on the trophy on a recent interview here: http://www.wpbsa.com/opacic-plans-flying-start-uk-championship/. There were a lot of gains for the English youngsters as well, as junior players Stephanie Daughtery and Aimee Benn both gain one position each to rise to 16th and 19th respectively but the most important move is German Diana Schuler, who moved into the Top 10 for the first time!
